Award-winning author of Comfort Plans, Kimberly Fish, delivers a novel about family, forgiveness, and the seeds of second chances.

Eight years ago, Autumn Joy Worthington, still reeling from the bitter divorce of her Grammy-Award-winning parents, endured the betrayal of a man who’d promised her a wedding. Running from pain seemed the logical response. Reinventing herself in Comfort, Texas, as a lavender grower, she creates a wildly successful gardening haven that draws in tourists and establishes an identity far removed from her parents’ fame. Her mother’s retirement from stardom inspires AJ to offer her refuge and nurse the dream that they could move past old hurts and the tarnish of the music industry … to find friendship. A grandmother in the early stages of dementia and the return of AJ’s father complicate the recovery, but nothing sets the fragile reality spinning like the arrival of Nashville music executive, Luke English.

As Alzheimer’s slowly knocks away the filters of their family, AJ comes to appreciate the true meanings of love and forgiveness -- and that the power of redemption can generate from the most unlikely sources. When AJ uncovers the grit to make hard choices, she also discovers that the flowers that bloom the brightest can have the most tangled roots.

Kimberly Fish is a professional writer with almost thirty years of media experience. She's been telling stories far longer. She published her first novel, a WWII historical fiction novel, because of a true story in her adopted hometown that was too good to ignore.  She quickly followed that success with a sequel. Since then, she's continued writing fiction and added a contemporary second-chance romance series set in Comfort, Texas, to her list of fun, fast-paced novels. Kimberly lives with her family in East Texas.

Everyone has a backstory. And as you read Comfort Songs by Kimberly Fish, it is easy to envision how the lives of those who have gone before us can have so much influence on what makes each of us who we are today.  Strong work ethics, stubbornness, soft-heartedness, the need to control, the desire to create and so many other personality traits are tightly woven into the strands of our DNA.  It seems, our ancestors can have stronger influences on the way we live and breathe and perceive than we are ever aware of.

Ms. Fish has a unique way of finding that intricate balance between the past and the now.  Her writing style brings clarity to the machinations haunting three generations of women from the same family. The way the stories of AJ, July, Inez and even the dour, loveless woman in the black dress were woven together made the events at the lavender farm in the little town of Comfort, Texas vibrate in my own psyche. There was so much love. . .and animosity swirling in the backgrounds of mother, daughter and grandmother. The humiliation, pride, pain and suffering almost overshadowed the love and compassion that each one wanted so desperately to be capable of expressing.

Like it is for AJ’s mother July, songwriting is also a passion of mine. So, it is easy for me to understand her over-whelming need to write and sing to express her feelings and views of the world.  But since, I also now have a little bit of the wisdom that comes with age, I can also commiserate with July’s daughter, who is achingly tired of seeing her mother suffer through the trials and tribulations that come with maneuvering through the roller-coaster life of a country music star.  AJ just wants to save her mother from all of that. . .and possibly from herself, too.  The thing is…AJ’s  notions about how to accomplish such a feat simply do not mesh with July’s, especially after Luke’s arrival on the scene threatens to swoop the aging star back into the music world.

This is such a good book filled with so much emotional depth that many times, it was hard to keep reading through the flow of tears.  Not all of those tears were sorrowful, though.  Sometimes, it was because I was so struck with emotion by the writer’s flawless ability to give lucidity to a tender moment. Contrary to how it may appear in the previous paragraphs, Comfort Songs is a wonderfully sweet love story between AJ and Luke that fills one with hope for the future. It takes place in a colorful backdrop of lavender fields, golden sunrises and moonlit nights that are full of the heartbeat of music.

I love that there are no cringe worthy moments in this beautifully written clean romance. I highly recommend it for readers of all ages.

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale Reader Review by B. Clezy

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale

 Reader Review

AMAZN UK

Let me begin by thanking Netgalley and Sybrina Durant for sending me the Arc of this captivating fantasy story. I literally read this book in a night! The story begins in tye land of MarBryn with the birth of Blue our main character, a frail and unique unicorn. His birth was foretold by the Orcle, that Blue would rid the Unicorns of the evil Magh that hunts them. But unlike the rest of the Unicorns with horns made of different types of metal which gave them all individual powers, Blue’s was merely made of hide, not metal so possessed no magical powers. Fast forward twenty years Blue is a loner, belittled by most of the tribe. His horn didn’t possess even a drop of magic no matter how hard he tried nothing would happen, this is when the plot starts to thicken. I really enjoyed Sybrina’s world building throughout the story, it painted a picture in your mind how beautiful Marbryn used to be before the wars. Her writting style is nothing short of whimsical. Sybrina’s character’s were well rounded, all of them leaving a lasting impression. The story itself was a bit of a slow burn to begin with but I think it had to be to build up the plot, emotions were portrayed perfectly throughout. Personally reading this book I think it has similarities to The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagal but it also has a unique flare. I think anyone that’s a fan of fantasy and adventure would enjoy this. I give this book a 4. 5 star rating. I'd happily read more books by Sybrina Durant.

Shahly's Quest

 By J. R. Knoll

In a place where mystic creatures wander the forests and dragons rule the sky, where magic is common practice and the seasons are ruled by the natural order, the delicate balance of the land would forever be cast into turmoil by an innocent of the wild. With the balance already disrupted by humans, one unicorn would find herself imperiled by forces she could never have imagined. To rescue her heart, Shahly must rescue the stallion she loves from the clutches of the humans. Driven by the love of her stallion, she must enter the world of the humans, known enemies of the unicorns, and put all she is and all she knows at risk to free him. She can't know of the dark forces at work, forces that could be the very undoing of everything she has ever known, forces that could mean the very extinction of her kind, and youth and inexperience conspire against her at every turn, as does her own heart. Before she can realize, she is so entangled with the role she must play to free him that her quest becomes a blur, and at times her very survival depends upon the actions of those around her, some wanting to protect her and others wanting her dead! But treacherous humans and horrific monsters are only part of her problem as another invades her heart, determined to unwittingly take the place of her stallion-and end her simple life as a unicorn forever. To complete her mission, she must battle the unseen forces around her, see through the deceptions, and win a hopeless fight with her own heart. And with only three days and nights to do this, she must rely upon the help of her kind's greatest and deadliest enemy, unaware that he has an agenda of his own.

The Blue Unicorn's Journey To Osm Reader Review by Laura T.

The Blue Unicorn's Journey To Osm - Illustrated Book

Reader Review

Having such a love for the wonder of unicorns it was an easy choice to read this book. Magical unicorns with metal horns. All shapes and sizes. And one unicorn, Blue, who has no magic, but is supposed to be the savior for the tribe. Sounds like a grand adventure to me.

And it was. Filled with lots of beautiful illustrations portraying many of the fantastical beings that roam these lands, it kept me enthralled. However, it had some dark moments that caught me by surprise. Going in thinking this was for younger readers, some scenes of death and danger now have me thinking this would better fit older teens and young adults.

This well written fantasy has plenty of intriguing characters and plenty of action, with some doses of peril that will keep you reading and crossing your fingers for a happy ending. I sure enjoyed it and would love to read more about Blue, his friends, and this magical world.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale Reader Review by Vermont

Journey To Osm - The Blue Unicorn's Tale

 Reader Review

This fantasy adventure of Blue the Unicorn and the Metal Horn tribe. Is one that will be a fine read for anyone of any age. When Alumina the Oracle brings the prophecy that Blue will be the savior of the Metal tribe and lead them to their ancestors home. Will Blue be the one to accomplish the task. Or will the evil sorcerer Magh be able to capture the magic of the remaining Unicorns. One of my favorite characters from the story were the Cussers. I have rated this well written fantasy a solid 5 stars and look forward to reading more by the author Sybrina Durant.
