Pump Up Your Book Blog Tour - Stellar Fusion By EL Strife

STELLAR FUSION

By E.L. Strife

Scifi/Fantasy

This isn’t the first invasion. This time, they’re taking everything… and everyone.

Earth, still patching itself together from the 300 Years War, is
severely unprepared and outnumbered when the invasion hits. Their only
hope is a small team of soldiers on a suicide mission to infiltrate the
mothership and relay critical defense information home.

The last survivor of the first encounter can’t explain why she knows
what she does. Sergeant Nakio Atana is the Universal Protectors’ elite
assassin and holds within a spark of unimaginable power. But a daring
escape from an enemy ship knocked the first fifteen years of her life into darkness, leaving her with only inexplicable apathy and technical knowledge beyond Earth’s evolution.

What she is can change their future.

Sergeant Bennett must guard her with his life.

Together, Atana and Bennett lead the team in hopes her knowledge, and
his crew’s skills, will render them a soft spot in the alien armor.
What they find when they reach the mothership is entirely unexpected.
The truth they uncover will challenge the code they live by and their
concepts of the power within.

PRAISE:

“Stellar Fusion is the work of a new aspiring writer with a penchant
for exploring possibilities of future life for humankind. Good versus
evil, loyalty, truth, integrity, and the power of strength, love, and
hope are all masterfully interwoven into this inaugural novel by E.L.
Strife. With the age-old theme of making the world a better place,
Strife casts her characters in the spotlight as they embrace survival on
the planet. Stellar Fusion offers readers an opportunity to look to the
future and reflect on what is most important to ensure the happiness,
success, and survival of the human race.”

EXCERPT

Hour Zero

NO ONE WAS BORN READY FOR IT—for the war on Earth, the war of three hundred years. The stars beyond seemed so distant, unreachable, a dream delayed as Earth fought over politics, cultural differences, and remnants of non-toxic land. After a long-overdue truce, the world united under common laws, electing a silent force of guardians to maintain peace and unity. Their system of justice: ‘an eye for an eye,’ as the saying goes. And it was effective. Until they arrived.
Man’s deadliest disease used to be hatred.
They came in ships blacker than the deepest wormhole to a forgotten galaxy, ships that dripped with blood from starving mouths. Ships that didn’t register on Earth’s scanners until it was far too late.
They took Earthlings from their homes, from their broken families, their suffering planet, and enslaved them, slowly torturing each until they could endure no longer. And then they came back for more.
They leave galaxies swirling in fragments and chaos—the planets molten in rage—rendering countless species extinct.
They do it without remorse.
It has been like this since almost the beginning of time.
Because they were looking for me.
I won’t be born for many long-cycles, but my kind, we surpass time. We live outside the boundaries of dimensions. We are the oldest spark, the strongest and brightest in the dark. And we thrive in the twilight, the shadows between all things.
They are an evil that spreads like blackened veins through the nebulae, siphoning life with a single touch. They feed off of us, drain our sparks without a moment’s hesitation. There will be no warning. There will be no mercy.
I tell you this now. Find those you love and hold on tight for as long as you can. Life is a struggle—a chain of choices and fate. It is too short to let go.
May the stars of my ancestors guide you and protect you.
I know my mother and father will do their best.
But it is not enough. Not without me.
I am Luna.
This is my family.
And this is the Universal War.

INTERVIEW THE AUTHOR

1.  Can you tell us a few things about yourself?

I’d love to! I’m a self-published author of (currently) four novels. I’m not stopping there! But I actually prefer to be outside, rain or shine. I enjoy bodybuilding, snowboarding, hiking, four-wheeling, camping, gardening, and working on cars. I’m a hands-on sort of person. I have two Bachelor’s Degrees and am a USAFR veteran of six years.

I’ve been traveling the country with my husband for five years for his job, living out of an RV. We’ve lived in seven states and seen some beautiful country that I think often goes unnoticed. While snowed in, in the North Dakota plains for a winter, with nothing else to do, I decided to make the dream of self-publishing a reality. I’m also a lucid dreamer who loves anything fluffy, struggles with migraines, and is addicted to Twinkies and caramel macchiatos.

2.  Describe the types of books you write without using genre headings e.g. you're not allowed to just say I write fantasy!

I’m definitely a cross-genre writer. My first book series blends magic with science, is set in the future, and involves alien invasions and military themes. I include cyberpunk and biopunk elements in a lot of my writing. While battle scenes can make a story intense, motivations of characters and their relationships are just as important.

I also enjoy writing love stories: true, forbidden, holiday, triangles, military, you name it. Experimenting with concepts of family plays an important part as well.

3.  Describe your why. Tell me what motivates you to write.

I write for so many reasons that it’s hard to pick the most important ones. I think a big part of writing for me is to open up and expose the struggles everyone faces beneath the masks we put on to show others “we’re okay” and we’re doing what others/society expects. I want to crush the stigmas of invisible illnesses. I want people to understand that being adopted or growing up with different concepts of guardians than the traditional doesn’t mean you’re broken.

I want scars to be beauty marks of strength.

I don’t write for the mass consumer. I write for the few, the in-between, the different, the loners, the forsaken, the ones who feel like everyone ignores them. There are good people in this world that go unnoticed because they aren’t represented in pop culture. They are still important. Everyone is.

4.  Fancasting – Did you have particular actors/actresses in mind for the starring roles in your story?

I can’t say I do, mostly because I don’t really see characters, similar to those I create, in the media. Most of my inspiration comes from everyday people.

5.  Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

I honestly believe there is no such thing as a bad writer, only a writer who can improve. So if you’re discouraged by lack of support or bad reviews or no sales, don’t worry. Don’t give up. It takes time and dedication to build your empire, yes—the craft classes, marketing set-up, networking etc. But you absolutely can get your stories out there and make money from them. You can build a fan base. Be patient.

Write because it means something to you. If you always keep in mind your purpose in starting this journey, you will never be disappointed. As long as you are still writing, you’re making progress.

Be realistic about your goals. Not everyone will like your work, and that’s okay. Find your audience and write your story to them.

Read popular work similar to what you’re creating. Don’t worry about accidentally plagiarizing. (It’s highly unlikely, unless you’re name-dropping.) Focus on their techniques, and experiment with your writing. You’ll be surprised by what you learn.

Your marketing platform will be the life or death of your stories. Keep in mind how many millions of books are available for download and how many thousands you’re up against in your genre/subgenre. To be seen, you have to get your book and yourself out there. Be on at least three websites/social media platforms. Data shows that people are more likely to consider you a serious writer (and real) if you’re accessible through multiple channels.

6.  Did you learn anything from writing this book and what was it?

Stellar Fusion was my crash course in writing, self-publishing, and authorship. My biggest mistake was not having a marketing platform before I published. I was too shy, too nervous what others thought of my work, and too afraid to invest more money. I couldn’t afford trial and error with ads. I had imposter syndrome because it was my first book, my degrees are in research, and I was fighting against stigmas associated with self-publishing.

But I pushed through it and got involved in some writing groups, watched a ton of webinars, and took classes to improve my editing and self-publishing processes. Staying focused on the goal kept my doubts at bay. And with each new thing I tackled, I added to my skills toolbox until I realized I’d published a couple novels and people were buying them. Having a great product is necessary. But if people don’t know why they need your product, they won’t buy it.

7.  Which writer's work do you believe most resembles your work?

I admit I’ve studied Kerry Nietz and Pierce Brown, mostly for the futuristic, cyberpunk, and intensity elements of their writing. They give readers a lot to chew on. I believe it’s good to have ideals to work toward as long as we never lose sight of writing our story the best way we can.

Thank you so much for having me!

Pump Up Your Book Blog Tour - Spirits of the Western Wild by D. Schaub and R. Vizard

* Spirits of the western wild *

* David Schaub & Roger Vizard *

* Adventure/Mystery/Comedy *

Title: Spirits of the Western Wild

Authors: David Schaub & Roger Vizard

Publisher: Independent

Genre: Adventure / Mystery / Comedy

This mystical adventure follows a young adventure-seeker named Luther McCleron on a westward journey to learn more about his Grandfather. A series of fateful missteps take Luther far
from his destination to a disheveled little town under the tyranny of a crooked sheriff named Big Willie. It’s here that Luther comes face-to-face with the legendary ghost of Monty: a curmudgeonly ghost who refuses to believe he’s dead. Luther just wants to get back to his quest, but Monty thwarts his plans by using Luther to take out his vengeance on Big Willie.

Through a catastrophic string of events, Luther and Monty find themselves hopelessly entangled in a combative partnership that escalates to the breaking point. Only by reconciling their differences
are they able to uncover the profound connections that weave their fates together.

A mysterious book of premonitions, an ominous crow, and ancient Indian drive the mystical tone of this world; conjuring spiritual forces to help steer Luther on his journey through this western “twilight zone.”

All the loose ends resolve in a satisfying story of redemption, loyalty and ascension while exploring the mysterious nature of fate and destiny. Was all of this a coincidence? Or are we guided by ancient
“spirits on the wind” that nudge and steer us along our path to assure that we arrive safely at our intended destination in the end?

5 out of 5 stars
A fantastic and Immersive adventure for everyone.
What a wonderful audio book and what a pleasure it was to be on this journey. Not only the adventure was captivating but also everything around it. The sounds effect and voices really bring it all together, you almost feel like you are right there witnessing all this first hand. The production quality is something I have never heard before. Very well done and I highly recommend it.

EXCERPT

It's eerily quiet here, aside from the monotonous sound of a squeaking windmill, long detached from the rusted pump that feeds the wooden water

tower.

Dilapidated wooden structures are mixed with colonial Spanish architecture.  Ominous religious relics are awash in the orange glow of twilight -- home of the classic Spaghetti Western.
Jasper leads the way, mumbling nonsensical gibberish to himself.

Luther tags along cautiously -- unaware of a stoic old Indian watching from the shadows of the abandoned post office.

This is Kickapoo -- eyes barely discernible inside the ancient crevices of his face.  From under his poncho, Kickapoo radiates the calm tranquility of an ancient spirit.  All-knowing -- silent and still -- moving only as much as required to breathe.

A small flourish twists overhead -- a remnant of the storm -- and a page from Luther's lost book swirls in and settles at Kickapoo's feet.

PUSH IN on the header:  “CHAPTER 2: THE DELIVERANCE.”

Kickapoo gives an appreciative nod skyward.  The plan is unfolding...

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

With Monty (the Ghost)

Now for something new and exciting...an interview with someone who knows Luther very well.  Enjoy!

Can you tell us your name and a bit about your background?
What… you too?  You know… there was a time when everybody knew exactly who I was around here.  The name’s Montague Montgomery - listed in the books if you go back and look it up.  But around here, everyone just called me Monty – strong arm of the law that every man, woman and child counted on for their preservation and good safekeepings.  Hard to believe there was a time when I was cherished and adorned by all of ‘em.

So what happened?
Well, I got this gap in my recollection, so I can’t really say.  Last thing I remember is Big Willie waltzing into town… struttin’ his stuff like he owned the place.  Next thing you know, he’s calling himself “sheriff,” and that was it.  After that, nobody talked at me no more.
Can you believe it?  Top of the hog-pile one day, and next thing you know, I’m just taken for granite around here.

For Granted…?
Right… GRANITE.  And for some reason, no one sees through that crooked old weasel for what he really is… just a high-falutin’, fast-talkin’ carpetbagger pulling the wool over their eyes.  He’s just a wolf in cheap clothing, is what I say.  But it don’t matter what I say.  ’Whole town acts like I’m not even there when I talk at ‘em.  Anyhow, I figure it’s better to be an old “has-been” than a “never-was.”  So I rest my pieces.

So Willie must be the villain… and how are you related to the main character?
Luther…?  Oh, well that’s a whole ’nother story.
So I was propped up in the corner of the saloon here – not in the happiest frame of moods… just ruminating on the backwash at the bottom of this empty glass.  Then in comes this funny looking kid calling himself Luther.  He comes right over and commences talking at me like no one’s talked at me in a long time…  Finally!  Somebody’s paying me attention!

I took a liking to him for a minute there… ‘till he started getting up into my business.  ’Said he thinks no one is talking at me ‘cause no one can SEE ME.  He thinks I’m some kind of mis-embodied spirit, or some lopsided hogwash like that…

A GHOST?!  REALLY?
Right!  Can you believe it?!  I swear… kids these days got nothing but misrespect – interfering in people’s privates all the time…

So… I’m confused.  Why does he think you’re a ghost if he can SEE you?
Well now, that’s the crutch of the matter, right there.  You’re gonna be surprised as I was, see… WHA--?
Hold on a sec –
.
.
.
.
The authors say I can’t be giving away the spoils.  They want you to read about all that.  I’m not much for reading myself, though… I like pictures the best.  And the book is full of pictures.

Better still – they set it up so you can LISTEN without reading a stitch! They’re calling it a movie for your ear-holes – featuring yours truly and a full cast of characters.

So how did you finally connect with Luther?
Well… he has a way of inviting trouble.  So before you know it, he gets in a tangle with Willie.  They tore the whole place apart, the two of ’em.  And when it was all over, I’m the one that had to bust him out of jail.
Don’t ask me why… I just got this strange feeling I gotta keep him around.  Besides, he’s the only one talking back at me, so I figure he can help me get to the bottom of this ghost-nonsense.

So the two of you are on this adventure TOGETHER?  Is that it?
Yup, we’re on the run from Willie now.   They’re calling it a BUDDY picture.  BUDDIES, ugh.  This kid would have expired by now if I wasn’t looking after him.  I had to show him there’s a whole lot more to riding a horse than just sittin’ in the saddle and lettin’ your feet hang down.
But I figure I can use this kid to do my dirty deeds back at Willie… if only these writers would stop gumming up the works.

What riders?
WRIT-ERS… Come on!  The guys that concocted this whole mess.  They keep talking about how “funny” it would be to make my prevailing situation even more troublesome.  Can you believe that?  They want to make my life a living hell for their own laughing matter!

Every time I get one step ahead, they throw me another hot mess.
So with all due regrets, I gotta go now.  I gotta stay ten paces ahead of these troublemakers, or I may not get out of this one alive.
