Kyle returns from school to find his home a burned out pit and his uncle-guardian missing. The wraiths have threatened to return for Kyle. To keep him safe, Lornan must enlist the powers of the mysterious She. On their way, they link fates with the manifesting artist Rendell, whose father is the feared wizard Geomorg. With a mesomorph cat and a rogue moorrat along, the company battles sorcery, a deadly marsh, a werebird, and the fearsome whirling wizard on their dangerous journey.
