The Blue Unicorn's Journey to Osm by Sybrina Durant transported me to a magical world and felt like I was part of the fairy-tale-like storyline. While reading, I could picture a parent reading this book as to their child as a bedtime story or a teacher reading this to her students.The prose and language used made for a delightful story. I enjoyed the way Sybrina Durant was able to carry me away with the characters, dialogue, and drama. She weaves an enjoyable and thought-provoking tale about friendships, family, bullying, bravery, magic, and evil, and mostly about being different and true to oneself.The artwork and images are beautiful and help transport the reader into the story.I willingly provided an honest review after receiving a copy of this book.

Makes a great keepsake. Get the illustrated book in print for your fantasy library collection.

The Blue Unicorn’s Journey to Osm by Sybrina Durant is a charming story filled with wonderful artwork at the beginning of each chapter. I loved many aspects of this story and I can certainly see where the target audience is going to get swept up in its magic.

Classic tale of the hero being the underdog in the beginning. Overcoming obstacles to blossom into the hero they were meant to be. And he got the girl of his dreams in the end :). I am a sucker for happy endings. And let us not forget about the other wonderful unicorns that contributed to this lovely tale – Nix especially. He tirelessly protected the tribe. I became exhausted just reading about his efforts to shield everyone.The descriptions surrounding Style and her work were really entertaining:“She had dreams about new ways she could style manes and tails. She referred to her styles as artworks. The fillies got excited every time she came up with a fantastic new design for manes, tails or nails.They particularly loved her fabulous painted hoof designs. Style’s salon was often filled with fillies who wanted a new look. She was always happy to conjure up beautiful and modern creations.”Or when speaking of food – definitely mouth watering:Most unicorns have a sweet tooth, so there was no lack of deserts. There were tins of sweet mace-laced potato haystack pancakes with maple syrup and containers of warm fragrant banana raisin bread. There were also tins filled with delicious cinnamon oatmeal cookies.I applaud the way the author approached difficulties that the unicorns had and the messages that were embodied within the story were great:‘Sometimes putting oneself aside to help another was the right thing to do.’; or“Sometimes drastic choices had to be made in order to stop the advance of evil.”I was however a bit dismayed that editing had not caught some basic errors, such as the following sentence where “such” and “hear” are in the incorrect order in the sentence. “It was good to such hear pride in his sister’s voice.” Luckily, the story was engaging enough to not totally put me off. Also, some of the made up words/phrases had me giggling: “driggle-draggle or muck-spout.Along with the fabulous artwork and very descriptive writing, the written tale was an engaging story, keeping me entertained throughout. I recommend this book for those readers who are fans of fantasy…and unicorns of course.

A birthday no one remembered was outright unforgivable. A birthday that would change all those to follow was downright insane.

It was a changing of the guard birthday. The one when everything went thicker—face moisturizers, waistlines and mindsets, and the absence of a credible man in my life was tossed around me, over me, behind me, and in front of me by all my loved ones. But, instead of a “Happy Birthday, Mackenzie” call from a mother who was never supposed to forget. Or a “You thought your old man forgot, didn’t you, Mackie?” from a father who pretended to forget. Or some form of birthday sympathy from any of my three older sisters, I got a call from ancient Father Somerville.

Father Somerville saw through my god-forsaken soul, or made me believe it, even now in my supposedly all-powerful thirtieth year of life. In his sixty-year-old seasoned pulpit voice, he declared I had received a package from my Aunt Sara. A package from her would have been great on a birthday no one remembered, if Aunt Sara hadn’t vacated her office and neglected her duties as lecturer of biblical archaeology over thirty years before and been declared dead twenty years ago.

Aunt Sara was my father’s youngest sister. She was also my godmother. Along with my Uncle Tony, she had held my tiny head over the baptismal font thirty years before. She had posed for pictures with every relative on the Irish side of the family and wisely followed that up with everyone on the Italian side. She enjoyed the seven-course meal at my Uncle Gianni’s restaurant, left to catch a plane to Cairo and was never heard from again. Unless there was delivery from heaven or as both rosary-touting grandmothers would say, from that other place that can’t be named, the package had to be a joke from one nasty person.

But, heck, it was my big 3-0 birthday. Maybe this was some ploy, although on the dark side, to get me to a big birthday bash.

Well, I’ve got to say, I loved this book. Wanting to be an archaeologist from a very young age, I’ve been completely enamored with any book or movie on the subject.  Throw in a secret society run by the Vatican and Moses & Mac by Franca Pelaccia is an action adventure mystery story that rivals any Indiana Jones movie or Dan Brown book.

On her 30^th birthday, our reluctant heroine, Mackenzie Braden finds herself recruited into something called VAS. That was the acronym for The Vatican Archaeology Service, which was a highly classified organization. In fact, it was a branch of the Vatican Secret Service that secretly investigated biblical archaeological finds. Some of the artifacts the group tracked down included the Shroud of Turin, the holy Crown of Thorns and Muhammed’s cloak and sword.  Their last find was 30 years prior and VAS was now long defunct.

Needless to say, Mac was shocked to find herself recruited into it.  With a little prodding from her long-lost godmother and some retired VAS agents, she easily goes from mild mannered professor of Victorian Literature to a femme’ fatale, fighting Syrian Brothers of Islamic Freedom and many other bad guy treasure hunters, all while being chased by RCMP, The Canadian Security Intelligence Services, the CIA and Interpol.   

Luckily she’s not alone in this adventure.  Through it all, she’s accompanied by a sexy Irish cowboy-biker looking pilot named Eoin (pronounced Ian) and a bunch of twenty-somethings who dream of being spies.

The author, Franca Pelaccia, weaves a great tale, with Moses & Mac. It’s got all the elements of a great action adventure mystery with a little mild romance.  I can’t wait to read the second book Mac & the Crusaders. I highly recommend it and rate it 5 stars.
