And they’ve taken her unborn child.

Enter Phil, a rebel freedom fighter who has had more than his share of Alien Vampires. Armed with THE BLADES, a sacred alien martial art, he enters the compound on a mission to find Sandy. But as he battles his way through the compound, Phil discovers Sandy has her own agenda. Finding her stolen child is all that matters.

But the vampires have their own plan and Sandy’s baby is at the heart of their diabolical plot. Joined by a crew of rogue soldiers, they must navigate the underground compound, battling genetically mutated humans, aliens and monsters.

When battling Alien Vampires, one thing is certain…Get Ready To Bleed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
He heard Sandy’s pounding heart growing stronger between his ears. Just one more corner. He took the corner as if he’d been shot from a cannon when his heart jumped, his feet slid to a stop. Not far down the hall stood Orion, blocking the hallway where Phil needed to go. The vampire’s eyes glared at Phil, standing erect, arms by his side and Phil could see he wore the blades. Orion’s face stiff. Phil took a few steps closer.
 “This is the end for you,” said Orion. He shook his head and stretched his finger in Phil’s direction. “You will be no more.”
 Phil looked to the floor, cocked his head. Times wasting. He shook his head. “No matter what,” he said raising his eyes to meet Orion. “I’m getting down that hall.”
 Orion smiled. “Never.” He stretched his arms, taking a fighting stance. “After I sever your head like you did to Titus, I’ll reach into your corpse and pull out your heart to feed on.”
 Phil stepped closer, stretching his arms. “Damn vampires,” he said. “Nothing more than devolved cockroaches, scattering in fear at the first sign of the light.”
 Orion threw his boot into Phil’s chest. Phil reeled back, slammed on his back and slid across the floor. Orion dropped his arms. “Humans,” he snarled. “So pathetic and weak. Nothing more than food…” he glared at Phil who pushed himself to his feet. “…for us cockroaches.”
 Phil spit a wad of blood to the floor. He gripped the handles in his palms and tightened his arms as he rushed at Orion who met Phil’s blade with his own. As they fought, crossing blade to blade, Phil could hear Sandy’s screams.
MY REVIEW
I just finished reading The Rose by P.D. Aleva.  It’s an incredible sci-fi novel that delves into a horrifying realm of nightmare scenarios.  The author throws us into the final gasping breaths of a World War 3 between the USA, Russia and China in which there are no clear winners.  Surviving populations on all continents have been herded into camps for their own “safety”.   But with the war finally over…safety from what?  It turns out the camps all cover entrances to immense underground facilities.  Those facilities, some of which are actually massive cities, have been populated by different alien species for thousands of years.  That’s right…according to this author, aliens are real.  UFO sightings really are aliens flying around our skies.  Yes, there really are little gray aliens and reptilians, too…and even more monsters and beasties than you can possibly imagine. . .and they are tired of living their lives hidden underground - out of human sight.
Imagine a world – right here on our own earth – where governments are well aware that other beings exist on this planet. . .where governments willingly work with these other creatures because those entities are more powerful than our greatest scientists or armies. . .even though it is well known that the others do not have human’s best interests at heart.  In fact…some of them even consider humanity as nothing more than food!
Is it possible that humans have been sharing the earth with one or more hidden species for thousands of years?  I’ve always been curious about such things.  In my younger days my curiosity even drew me to attend a few local MUFON meetings.  Though I heard lots of stories there – some interesting and some kind of scary - nothing I witnessed convinced me that aliens really existed. But still…the curiosity never really faded completely away.  One of my favorite shows today is Ancient Aliens, mainly because the producers have a way of making it seem so possible that most of those ancient structures around the world must have been designed and built by something other than humans.  But if true…where did they all go?
Did they fly back to their planets promising to return another day or did they go underground right here on earth?  Are there really aliens working with our world governments in ways that both help and harm human kind?  I’m not going to totally discount any possibilities but I truly hope that the possible future that the author of The Rose envisions is totally and completely inaccurate.  The aliens in this story are not the nice ones.  Surely, aliens can’t all be bad, can they?  Maybe not, but I won’t find that out until the sequel is published.  Hurry up and finish it Mr. Aleva.  I can’t wait to read it!
Read an Excerpt
I always knew it would be me.
Don’t ask me to explain how I knew—I won’t be able to.
As far back as I can remember, there was talk of colonizing outer space. I didn’t grow up freaked out by the idea. Maybe I should have—my parents were.
The year I was born, the United States celebrated its one hundredth anniversary of the successful establishment of a colony on the moon. Venturing into outer space was never foreign to me; it never carried fear the way it did for the adults around me. I learned about the solar system in school like every kid through the generations…but I also facetimed with the scientists stationed at headquarters and had a third-grade pen pal who lived on the moon.
But that was when Earth was only thought to be dying…before scientists put an expiration date on Earth’s existence. That news changed everything: disbelief melted into panic, which boiled to cold-blooded terror when the drafts were instated.
But maybe I’m getting ahead of myself. I forget that not everyone is fluent in space-talk; that my everyday reality is startling to some. My mom in particular reminds me of this all the time. She accuses me of being intentionally abrupt just so I can elicit shocked reactions from people around me.
It isn’t true. I just don’t see the point in sugarcoating situations.
Little Kid Unicorn Book Feature - Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima
Little Kid Unicorn Book Feature - Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima
In the tradition of Uni the Unicorn and Gaston, this heartwarming and adorable debut picture book tells the story of a young unicorn who was born under the sea to a family of narwhals.
Growing up in the ocean, Kelp has always assumed that he was a narwhal like the rest of his family. Sure, he’s always been a little bit different—his tusk isn’t as long, he’s not as good of a swimmer, and he really doesn’t enjoy the cuisine. Then one night, an extra strong current sweeps Kelp to the surface, where he spots a mysterious creature that looks just like him! Kelp discovers that he and the creature are actually unicorns. The revelation leaves him torn: is he a land narwhal or a sea unicorn? But perhaps, if Kelp is clever, he may find a way to have the best of both worlds.
Told with heartwarming illustrations and spare, sweet text, Jessie Sima’s debut picture book is about fitting in, standing out, and the all-encompassing love of family.
Teen, YA or Older Reader Unicorn Book Feature - The Outstretched Shadow By Mercedes Lackey
Teen, YA or Older Reader Unicorn Book Feature - The Outstretched Shadow: The Obsidian Trilogy Book 1 By Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory
The Outstretched Shadow, the first book in The Obsidian Trilogy from Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory
Kellen Tavadon, son of the Arch-Mage Lycaelon, thought he knew the way the world worked. His father, leading the wise and benevolent Council of Mages, protected and guided the citizens of the Golden City of the Bells. Young Mages in training--all men, for women were unfit to practice magic--memorized the intricate details of High Magic and aspired to seats on the council.
Then he found the forbidden Books of Wild Magic--or did they find him? The three slim volumes woke Kellen to the wide world outside the City's isolating walls. Their Magic was not dead, strangled by rules and regulations. It felt like a living thing, guided by the hearts and minds of those who practiced it and benefited from it.
Questioning everything he has known, Kellen discovers too many of the City's dark secrets. Banished, with the Outlaw Hunt on his heels, Kellen invokes Wild Magic--and finds himself running for his life with a unicorn at his side.
Kellen's life changes almost faster than he can understand or accept. Rescued by a unicorn, healed by a female Wild Mage who knows more about Kellen than anyone outside the City should, meeting Elven royalty and Elven warriors, and plunged into a world where the magical beings he has learned about as abstract concepts are flesh and blood creatures-Kellen both revels in and fears his new freedom.
Especially once he learns about Demons. He'd always thought they were another abstract concept-a stand-in for ultimate evil. But if centaurs and dryads are real, then Demons surely are as well. And the one thing all the Mages of the City agreed on was that practicing Wild Magic corrupted a Mage. Turned him into a Demon. Would that be Kellen's fate?
Deep in Obsidian Mountain, the Demons are waiting. Since their defeat in the last great War, they've been biding their time, sowing the seeds of distrust and discontent between their human and Elven enemies. Very soon now, when the Demons rise to make war, there will be no alliance between High and Wild Magic to stand against them. And all the world will belong to the Endarkened.
